Provide a supportive ecosystem through the establishment of Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs), providing access to microcredits, financial and other resources to support entrepreneurs with disabilities.
Financial support has remained largely inaccessible to individuals with disabilities due to various systemic barriers, including limited access to financial institutions, discriminatory lending practices, and the absence of financial products tailored to their unique needs. Recognizing these obstacles, United Persons with Disabilities establishes SACCOs led and managed by graduates with disabilities, providing access to microcredits and other tailored financial resources. This initiative empowers individuals with disabilities to start and manage their own businesses.
Goal: Establish Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) to provide access to microcredits, financial resources, and social support.
Strategies
Create a webinar series, Talking Circles, and workshops to provide financial literacy training, leadership development, and motivation to individuals with disabilities, encouraging their participation in SACCOs.
Empower SACCOs members who are individuals with disabilities through ongoing leadership and management training to establish a robust foundation, implementation framework, and sustainable model for replication.
Collaborate with disability organizations, financial institutions, civil society groups, and relevant stakeholders to leverage resources, expertise, and networks, ensuring broader support and participation of people with disabilities.
